If you are in the army, then you know that the most important piece of gear you can have is head protection. With that being said, army hats are specifically designed to camouflage and hide you from the enemy. But outside of the army, camo hats are becoming more and more popular especially among teens. Whether you are looking for something to complete your guerrilla suit allowing you to see while invisible or make you look tough at the beach the army hat can do it all.

Some styles of army hats, such as the sniper hat, also have a veil to shield the face from view. This allows the person wearing it to see out, but very hard for a person to pick them out among the jungle floor or in an urban hideout. Even hunters use these styles of hats to hide themselves from deer and moose that have very keen eye sight.

Another type of army hat is the boonie hat. This hat has a very large brim which keeps the sun out of your eyes. It is also used to hang things off of without them touching your face directly. If you were hiding in the forest, you may want to have sticks and moss hanging from your hat to help yourself blend in to the background. The military and army love these hates for their sniper teams.

There has been millions of dollars put in to research to find the perfect color combinations and specific patterns for army hats. You will find moss, leaf, and grass patterns as well as the typical desert, winter, and jungle camouflage type patterns. There are some that go even more specific as to shimmering water tones for night time water operations and woodland patterns for more earthy missions.

A lot of generic army hats come in one size fits all. However, sizes between 7 and 8 are most common. Outside of the army you will have a difficult time finding an adjustable hat.

Aside from finding army hats online, one of the best places to go is to an army surplus store. These stores usually carry a wide variety of used and new merchandise. I have even bought MRE’s, meals ready to eat, for less than $2 a piece. If you are looking for a baseball cap style hat, it shouldn’t cost you more than $5. The more specialized army hats like the boonie hat will cost around $25.

You don’t need to join the army to enjoy their clothing. In fact, you never know when the world might change and something as simple as a shelf full of army hats may save your life. It’s definitely something to consider and recommend.
